Hormone Balance and Your Good Health

Hormones are chemicals within our bodies responsible for many things including the regulation of our metabolism, immune function, blood pressure, sugar levels, body temp, as well as re-growth and repair of damaged tissue. Each of us has about 60 trillion cells which must communicate properly with each other in order to carry out their intended functions. Hormones are the chemical messengers which transfer this information between our cells.

Traveling through the bloodstream, hormones are able to enter our cells via receptor sites, and "flip the switches" that control our growth and development, physical health, and mental well-being.

Hormones accomplish their tasks through a delicate balancing act, working in harmony with each other at just the right levels. When these proportions are correct, the body responds with peak performance. When their balance is lost, however, a hormone deficiency or excess can cause health disorders, including a host of mental and physiological symptoms, and disease.

Why me? The Causes of Hormone Imbalance

It's a fact. As we get older, our various hormone production levels naturally decrease. This will happened at slightly different times, in different degrees, for different people. But you can be sure, sooner or later each of us will feel the effects.

In nature, we are really only programmed to do two things, create offspring so the species survives, and die so that we don't consume the resources needed by our offspring. It is conjectured that once we reach our peak of "fertility" in our late teens and early twenties, and have children, we have served our purpose to the species and then simply fade away.

Growing older, however, is only one of the factors affecting our hormonal production and balance. The food we eat, the exercise we give our bodies, the toxins we expose ourselves to, and the stress we live under all have a powerful influence on our hormonal systems.
