Botox in Paradise Valley: What to Know Before Your First Appointment

Injectables · Paradise Valley, AZ

If you’ve been thinking about Botox in Paradise Valley — whether it’s your first time or you’re looking for a new provider — this guide is for you. I’m Stephanie Heringer, RN, and I’ve been injecting at BHRC Paradise Valley for several years. The questions I hear most often from patients are always the same: Does it hurt? How long does it last? Will I look frozen?

Here’s everything you need to know before your first appointment, written by someone who sees this every single day.

Botox at a Glance

  • Procedure time: 10–15 minutes (30–45 min total appointment)
  • Onset: 3–5 days; full results at 10–14 days
  • Duration: 3–4 months (longer with regular treatment)
  • Downtime: None — return to normal activity immediately
  • Pain level: Minimal — brief pinching sensation
  • Who it’s for: Adults 21+ with dynamic wrinkles (movement-related lines)

What Botox Actually Is

Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin type A — a purified protein that temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for creating expression lines. When injected in small, precise amounts into targeted facial muscles, it prevents those muscles from contracting fully for 3–4 months, which smooths existing lines and prevents them from deepening further.

The key word is temporarily. Botox is not a permanent change, and it doesn’t affect your underlying skin, bone structure, or tissue. If you decide you don’t like the results, they simply wear off over time.

Botox is FDA-approved for cosmetic use on forehead lines, glabellar lines (the “11s” between your brows), and crow’s feet — and has been used safely for this purpose for over 30 years.

What Can Be Treated with Botox

Most Requested

Forehead Lines + Glabella (“11s”)

Horizontal forehead lines and the vertical crease between the brows are the most common requests. These are pure dynamic wrinkles — caused entirely by muscle movement — and respond beautifully to Botox. Most patients use 20–30 units for this area.

Popular Add-On

Crow’s Feet

The fine lines that radiate from the outer corners of the eyes when smiling. Treating crow’s feet can make the entire eye area look more refreshed without touching the lid itself. Typically 10–15 units per side.

Subtle Lift

Brow Lift

By relaxing the muscles that pull the outer brow downward, a few precise units can create a subtle brow arch — lifting and opening the eye area without filler or surgery. This is one of my favorite techniques for patients who want a refreshed look without looking “done.”

Advanced Technique

Masseter / Jaw Slimming

Injecting the masseter muscle can slim a square jaw, reduce jaw clenching (bruxism), and relieve TMJ tension. This is a higher-dose treatment (25–50 units per side) with results that often last 6+ months.

The “Frozen Face” Myth

The most common concern I hear is: “I don’t want to look frozen.” This is a fair concern — and it’s a real phenomenon when Botox is overdone or placed incorrectly. But it is entirely preventable.

The frozen look happens when too many units are placed in the forehead without maintaining the natural movement of other facial muscles, or when units are placed too close to the brow, causing it to drop. An experienced injector knows the anatomy and dose conservatively on a first treatment — you can always add more at your 2-week follow-up; you can’t take it away.

At BHRC, my philosophy is natural movement with reduced lines. Most of my patients don’t look “done.” They just look well-rested.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid blood thinners (ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil, Vitamin E) for 48–72 hours before, if possible — this reduces bruising risk
  • Come with a clean face — no thick makeup needed
  • Bring a list of current medications and supplements for review
  • If it’s your first appointment, arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete paperwork

During Your Appointment

I’ll start by reviewing your facial anatomy, discussing your goals, and marking the injection points. The actual injections take about 10–15 minutes. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch — the needles are ultra-fine, and the amounts per injection are tiny (0.05–0.1ml).

After Your Appointment

  • Avoid lying flat for 4 hours after treatment
  • Don’t rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day
  • Results begin appearing in 3–5 days; check in at 10–14 days when full results are visible
  • Call or message us if anything looks uneven at your 2-week mark — we always offer a complimentary touch-up if needed

How Often Will You Need Treatments?

Most patients come back every 3–4 months initially. Over time, with consistent treatment, many find they can stretch to every 4–6 months as the treated muscles gradually lose their strength from being relaxed repeatedly.

A common mistake I see: waiting until the lines fully return before coming back. If you come in before your Botox has completely worn off, you maintain a more consistent result and often use fewer units over time.

A note on preventive Botox: Younger patients in their mid-to-late 20s and early 30s increasingly use Botox preventively — before lines become static (visible at rest). The logic is sound: relaxing a muscle repeatedly over years prevents the etching of a permanent line. This is a personal decision, and I’m happy to discuss whether it makes sense for your specific concerns.

Botox vs. Dysport: Which Should You Choose?

Both are botulinum toxin type A products. The main differences:

  • Spread: Dysport diffuses slightly more from the injection point, which can be an advantage in larger areas (forehead) but requires careful placement near the brows
  • Onset: Dysport often works a day or two faster — some patients notice results in 24–48 hours
  • Dosing: Dysport units and Botox units are not interchangeable (approximately 2.5:1 ratio) — a provider quoting “50 units of Dysport” is not quoting double the Botox dose
  • Cost per unit: Dysport units typically cost less, but more units are required — total cost is comparable

I use both at BHRC Paradise Valley and choose based on the treatment area and your preferences. We’ll discuss this during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Botox cost in Paradise Valley?

Botox in Paradise Valley is typically $12–$18 per unit. A full treatment covering forehead, glabella, and crow’s feet uses 40–60 units — a total of $500–$1,080. Pricing is discussed transparently during your consultation at BHRC.

How long does Botox last?

3–4 months for most patients. With regular treatments over time, many patients find they need injections less frequently as the treated muscles gradually weaken from disuse.

Does Botox hurt?

Most patients describe Botox as a brief pinching sensation — similar to a small insect bite. The needles are ultra-fine and the procedure takes 10–15 minutes. No anesthesia is required.

What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Both are botulinum toxin type A products. Dysport spreads slightly more from the injection point and may work a bit faster. Your BHRC injector will recommend the right product for your anatomy and treatment areas.

What areas can be treated with Botox?

The most common: forehead lines, glabella (“11s”), and crow’s feet. Also: brow lift, bunny lines, lip flip, chin dimpling, neck bands, jaw slimming (masseter), and hyperhidrosis. Your BHRC provider will assess which areas will give you the most natural result.

How long does an appointment take at BHRC Paradise Valley?

30–45 minutes total, including your assessment and treatment planning. The actual injections take about 10–15 minutes. First appointments take slightly longer.

When will I see results?

Results begin in 3–5 days. Full results are visible at 10–14 days. If you have an event, plan your appointment at least 2 weeks in advance.
