Blood panel testing · Hormone panels

    In short

A comprehensive blood panel at BHRC measures hormones, thyroid function, metabolic markers, vitamin levels and inflammatory markers, and is then reviewed by a physician against your symptoms rather than just against a reference range. Panels are built around what you are experiencing, so pricing is quoted after the consultation. It is the starting point for hormone therapy, thyroid treatment, weight loss and hair restoration.

Normal is not the same as optimal

A lab reference range is a population statistic. It describes where most people's results fall, which is a different question from where yours should be. A thyroid result at the very bottom of the range comes back marked normal, and the person holding it can be exhausted, cold, gaining weight and losing hair. Testosterone at the low end of a range built largely from older men comes back normal too. None of that means reference ranges are useless, and we are not going to tell you they are. It means a number inside the range still has to be read against how you actually feel, by someone who can then do something about it. That reading is what this is for.

Not everyone needs everything. Ordering markers that will not change what we do is expensive and it clutters the picture, so the panel is built around your symptoms rather than sold as a fixed list.

    What we test

    How it works

How Blood Panel Testing Works Here

Symptoms first, then the panel, then a plan.

It starts with what brought you in. Fatigue, weight that will not move, poor sleep, low libido, thinning hair, brain fog or mood changes each point at different systems, and that conversation decides which panel makes sense.

The draw takes ten to fifteen minutes. Some markers need fasting and some are timed to your cycle, and you will be told exactly what to do beforehand, because a mistimed sample is a wasted one.

Results come back within a few days and a physician reviews them against your symptoms, not just against the reference range. Patterns across markers usually say more than any single number.

Then a plan. Hormone therapy, thyroid treatment, a weight loss programme, nutrient support, or in plenty of cases nothing at all beyond retesting in a few months. All of it available in the same building.

    Which product

How this differs from a standard lab

Including when a standard lab is genuinely the better option.

A BHRC physician reviewing a lab report
    A commercial lab

Starts working: Cheaper. Lasts: Result and a range. Labcorp and Quest are excellent at drawing blood accurately and they are cheaper than us. What you get back is a number and a reference range. If you already know what you are looking for and have a physician to interpret it, that is a perfectly sensible route and we will say so.

    A direct-to-consumer kit

Starts working: Cheapest. Lasts: An app and a chart. Convenient, and the sample handling on finger-prick collection is more variable than a venous draw. The bigger gap is that nobody is reading it against your symptoms and nobody can treat what it finds.

    A BHRC panel

Starts working: Physician-led. Lasts: Interpretation and a plan. The panel is chosen around your symptoms, a physician reads the pattern rather than the individual numbers, and treatment is available in the same building. That interpretation is what you are actually paying for.

    Retesting

Starts working: Essential. Lasts: Direction, not a snapshot. One panel is a single moment. What a marker is doing over time usually matters more than where it sat on one morning, which is why treatment plans here are built around repeat testing.

What Blood Panel Testing Can Tell You

Sorted by the complaint that brings people in.

A BHRC provider performing a blood draw
    Why you are exhausted

Thyroid, iron, vitamin D, B12 and testosterone are the usual suspects, and all five are measurable.

    Why weight will not move

Thyroid function, HbA1c and insulin. Insulin resistance makes fat loss disproportionately hard and it is invisible without testing.

    Why your hair is thinning

Ferritin, thyroid and androgens. Frequently the whole answer, and treatable.

    Where you are hormonally

Testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and DHEA, read against your symptoms and your stage of life.

    Whether something needs attention

Cholesterol, kidney and liver function and inflammatory markers. Sometimes the useful finding is not the one you came in about.

    Whether a treatment is working

Repeat testing on therapy. Direction over time beats any single snapshot.

    Or that nothing is wrong

A genuinely useful result. Plenty of panels come back clean and the answer is sleep, stress or training load, and we will tell you that rather than find something to sell.

    Aftercare

    Getting a usable result

Preparation matters more than people expect.

A BHRC physician explaining blood panel results
    Fasting

Glucose, insulin and lipids need it. You will be told which of your markers do.

    Timing of day

Testosterone and cortisol both follow a daily rhythm and are usually drawn in the morning. An afternoon draw can read low for no real reason.

    Timing in the cycle

Estrogen and progesterone are meaningless without knowing where in the cycle they were taken.

    Supplements

Biotin in particular interferes with several assays, including thyroid. Tell us what you take.

    Hydration

Being dehydrated concentrates the sample and shifts several results.

    The review

Where the value is. A list of numbers without interpretation is not worth much.

    Retesting

Usually eight to twelve weeks after starting treatment.

    Is it for you

Who comprehensive blood testing is for

Testing is most useful when you have symptoms to explain, or when you are already on a treatment and want to know whether it is working.

Testing is likely to be worthwhile if you

    • Are persistently exhausted without an obvious reason
    • Cannot lose weight despite genuine effort with diet and training
    • Are noticing hair thinning, especially at the part line or crown
    • Have low libido, poor sleep, brain fog or mood changes
    • Are in perimenopause or menopause and want to know where you actually are
    • Are a man over 35 wondering whether testosterone is part of the picture
    • Have been told your results are normal but still feel unwell
    • Are already on hormone, thyroid or weight loss treatment and are due a retest

Testing may be less useful right now if you

    • Have had a comprehensive panel within the last three months with no symptom change
    • Are acutely unwell, which distorts several markers and is better retested after recovery
    • Are taking high-dose biotin, which interferes with thyroid and several other assays
    • Already know what you are looking for and have a physician to interpret it, in which case a commercial lab will draw the same blood for less
    • Are looking for a diagnosis of an acute medical condition, which belongs with your primary care physician or an emergency department

Your provider will build the panel around your symptoms rather than ordering a fixed list. Markers that will not change what we do are just expense.

    Frequently asked

    Blood panel questions, answered

What is included in a comprehensive blood panel?

Our comprehensive blood panel tests 50+ biomarkers including a complete blood count (CBC), comprehensive metabolic panel, full lipid panel, thyroid function, hormone levels (testosterone, estrogen, DHEA, cortisol), vitamin D, B12, iron studies, inflammatory markers (CRP, ESR), HbA1c, insulin, and more. We customize panels based on your specific health concerns and goals.

How long does it take to get my results?

Most blood panel results are available within 3-5 business days after your blood draw. Once your results are ready, we’ll schedule a consultation with your provider to review everything in detail. Some specialized tests may take slightly longer, and your provider will let you know the expected timeline during your visit.

Do I need to fast before my blood draw?

For most comprehensive panels, we recommend fasting for 8-12 hours before your blood draw for the most accurate results, particularly for glucose, insulin, and lipid markers. Water is encouraged during the fasting period to stay hydrated. Your provider will give you specific preparation instructions when you book your appointment.

How is this different from bloodwork at my regular doctor?

Standard doctor’s visits typically test only 10-15 basic markers and focus on detecting disease. At BHRC, we test 50+ biomarkers and focus on optimization—not just “normal” ranges, but optimal ranges for peak health. Our providers spend significantly more time reviewing your results, explaining what each marker means for your wellness, and creating actionable treatment plans.

How often should I get blood panels done?

We generally recommend comprehensive blood panels every 3-6 months, especially if you’re on a treatment plan like HRT or addressing specific health concerns. For general wellness monitoring, annual or semi-annual panels are typically sufficient. Your provider will recommend the ideal frequency based on your individual health goals and any treatments you’re undergoing.

Will my insurance cover blood panel testing?

BHRC blood panels are offered at transparent, competitive pricing regardless of insurance status. While some insurance plans may reimburse for certain diagnostic tests, our panels are designed to go beyond what insurance typically covers. We offer financing through CareCredit and Cherry to make comprehensive testing accessible. Our team can provide documentation for potential insurance reimbursement.

What happens if my results show something abnormal?

If any markers fall outside optimal ranges, your provider will discuss the findings with you in detail during your results consultation. Depending on the findings, they may recommend lifestyle modifications, nutritional supplementation, hormone therapy, or other treatments available at BHRC. For any markers suggesting a condition outside our scope, we’ll refer you to the appropriate specialist for further evaluation.

Can blood panels help guide my hormone therapy?

Absolutely. Blood panels are essential for safe, effective hormone replacement therapy. Before starting HRT, baseline panels establish your current hormone levels. Follow-up panels every 3-6 months allow your provider to fine-tune your dosage for optimal results while monitoring safety markers like liver function, hematocrit, and PSA. This data-driven approach ensures you get the maximum benefit with the highest level of safety. Blood panel results are for informational and wellness optimization purposes. Interpretation against your symptoms is the entire product. A number and a reference range you can get anywhere, more cheaply.

Normal is not the same as optimal

Reference ranges are population statistics. A result at the very bottom of one is still technically normal and can still be the reason you feel terrible.
