Active acne and the marks it leaves behind are two different problems, and scar type decides the treatment. Getting that diagnosis right matters more than which device is used.

3 to 6 treatments, save up to 20%
New clients save 15% on your first treatment.
Price depends on modality, and modality depends on scar type, which is why the assessment comes first. A plan usually combines more than one treatment: clearing active acne before resurfacing, then treating the scarring underneath. Series of three to six save up to 20% against individual pricing.

Acne and acne scar treatment · Cheeks
In short
Acne scarring is not one condition. Atrophic scars are indentations, which need collagen rebuilt underneath them and respond to microneedling, RF microneedling and CO2 laser. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is flat discolouration, not a scar at all, and responds to peels and time. Raised or keloid scarring needs a different approach again. The consultation is mostly about telling which you have.
The word scar covers at least three different things, and they need different treatments. Atrophic scars are the indentations, the boxcar and rolling and icepick marks, and they need collagen built back underneath. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the flat brown or red patch left after a spot clears, which is not scar tissue at all and often fades on its own with sun protection. Raised and keloid scarring is the opposite of atrophic and treating it like the others makes it worse. Most disappointment with acne scar treatment comes from treating the wrong one.
Units and cost
Matched to scar type, from the plans our providers build.
| Area | Typical units | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Active acne | HydraFacial or VI Peel Purify | from $175 |
| Post-inflammatory pigmentation | VI Peel, 3 sessions | from $420 |
| Rolling scars | Microneedling, 4 to 6 sessions | from $500 |
| Boxcar scars | Microneedling or CO2, 3 to 6 | from $500 |
| Icepick scars | CO2 laser, 2 to 3 sessions | from $750 |
| Scarring plus poor skin quality | Microneedling + PRP | from $950 |
| Deep established scarring | CO2 laser, 2 to 3 sessions | from $750 |
| Raised or keloid scarring | Assessment first | Often not resurfacing |
Icepick scars are the hardest: they are narrow and deep, and respond far better to focused resurfacing than to needling. Most real plans combine modalities because most faces have more than one scar type.

How it works
Rebuilding, resurfacing, or simply waiting.
Atrophic scars are indentations where collagen was lost during inflammation. Microneedling and CO2 laser both work by creating controlled injury that prompts new collagen to fill the depression from beneath.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is excess pigment left after inflammation, sitting in otherwise normal skin. Peels remove pigmented surface layers and sun protection stops it recurring. It also fades on its own, so patience is a legitimate treatment.
Active acne has to be controlled first. Resurfacing skin that is still breaking out treats the damage while the cause continues, which is why plans usually start with clearing rather than resurfacing.
Which product
The most searched question about acne scarring, answered by scar type rather than by device.

Starts working: 1 to 2 weeks. Lasts: Improves for 6 months. The best first choice for rolling and shallow boxcar scars, and safe on every skin tone because it uses no heat or light. Needs a series of four to six. From $500 a session. This is what most people mean when they search for acne scar treatment.
Starts working: 1 to 2 weeks. Lasts: Improves for 6 months. The same channels with your own growth factors applied into them, which does measurably more for scarring than needling alone. From $950.
Starts working: 5 to 7 days. Lasts: Years. The strongest option and the only one that reliably reaches icepick and deep boxcar scarring. Fewer sessions, real downtime, from $750. Skin type is assessed carefully first.
Starts working: 5 to 7 days peeling. Lasts: Months. Treats the pigmentation left behind rather than the indentation itself. VI Peel Purify handles active acne and its marks together, from $540. It will not fill a scar.
Good to know
Including what will not help, and what needs no treatment at all.

Collagen rebuilt beneath the indentation is what actually lifts a rolling or boxcar scar.
The Purify peel formulation treats live acne and the marks it leaves in the same session.
Peels remove pigmented surface layers. Sun protection is what stops it coming straight back.
Enlarged pores and rough texture usually improve alongside scarring, on the same treatments.
Microneedling and peels both work without heat or light, so deeper skin has good options. Post-inflammatory pigmentation is more common on deeper skin, which makes this more important, not less.
Flat red or brown marks after a spot are not scars and frequently fade on their own within a year. We will tell you when waiting beats paying.
Keloid and hypertrophic scarring is treated differently and can be worsened by resurfacing. It is assessed separately.
Aftercare
Downtime varies enormously across the modalities used here.

Nothing to nothing much, up to five to seven days of light peeling depending on the formulation.
Redness like mild sunburn for one to three days. Makeup within 24 to 48 hours.
Five to seven days of real recovery: swelling, then flaking. Plan the week.
Applies to all of them. Lifting healing skin early is how a treatment for scarring creates a new mark.
Non-negotiable throughout. Sun exposure on healing skin is the fastest way to replace scars with pigmentation.
Four to six weeks, so collagen has time to form.
This is when scarring genuinely changes. Progress photos are the only honest way to judge it.

Frequently asked
The best treatment depends on your specific concerns. For active acne, HydraFacial and Chemical Peels are excellent for clearing breakouts. For acne scars, Morpheus8 and Microneedling are highly effective at stimulating collagen to smooth texture.
Most patients see optimal results with a series of 3-6 treatments, depending on the severity of their concerns. Active acne may require ongoing monthly maintenance treatments. Acne scarring typically needs multiple sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart as collagen remodeling takes time. We’ll create a customized treatment plan during your consultation based on your specific goals.
Downtime varies by treatment. HydraFacial has zero downtime—you can return to normal activities immediately with glowing skin. Chemical Peels may have 2-5 days of peeling. Microneedling and Morpheus8 typically have 3-5 days of redness and minor swelling. IPL may cause slight darkening of pigmented spots before they flake off.
Most treatments involve minimal discomfort. HydraFacial is completely comfortable—most patients find it relaxing.
Yes! Many patients achieve better results with a multi-modality approach. For example, HydraFacial can be combined with IPL or Chemical Peels in the same session. Morpheus8 and Microneedling work synergistically when alternated. Our providers often create combination protocols that address multiple concerns simultaneously for faster, more comprehensive results.
Most of our treatments are safe for all skin types. Morpheus8 and Microneedling are particularly safe for darker skin tones as they work beneath the skin’s surface. IPL and some Chemical Peels may require modified settings or alternative options for darker skin to prevent hyperpigmentation. During your consultation, we’ll assess your skin type and recommend the safest, most effective options.
Results timing varies by treatment. HydraFacial provides immediate glow and clarity. Chemical Peels show results within 5-7 days as skin renews. IPL improvements appear as pigmentation fades over 1-2 weeks. Microneedling and Morpheus8 results develop over 4-6 weeks as collagen rebuilds, with continued improvement for up to 6 months. Most patients notice significant changes after their second or third treatment.
While our treatments significantly reduce breakouts, acne management is often ongoing. We’ll provide skincare recommendations to maintain your results and may suggest periodic maintenance treatments. For acne scars, the results are permanent—once collagen is remodeled, the improvement remains. A good skincare routine and occasional touch-up treatments help preserve your beautiful results long-term. Individual results may vary. The information provided on this page is for educational purposes only and is not intended as medical advice. Results depend on individual factors such as skin type, acne severity, and adherence to treatment protocols. What Megan does
Atrophic, pigmented and raised scarring need different treatments. Most disappointment comes from treating the wrong one.
Facials, peels, microneedling, PRP and CO2 are all here, so the plan is built around your skin rather than around the one device we own.
Microneedling and peels work without heat or light. Post-inflammatory pigmentation is more common on deeper skin, so having safe options matters more, not less.
Resurfacing skin that is still breaking out treats damage while the cause continues. We sequence it properly even though it is slower.
Flat marks after a spot often fade on their own within a year. That advice costs us a sale and it is still the right advice.
Standardised training and the same protocols in every location.
