PRP in Houston

What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Your blood carries platelets rich in growth factors, the same signals your body uses to repair tissue and build collagen. PRP concentrates them and places them where you want results.

Because PRP comes entirely from you, nothing synthetic is involved. That makes it a popular choice at BHRC River Oaks for people who want a natural approach to fuller hair and healthier skin.

PRP can be injected or paired with microneedling, which creates channels that help the growth factors absorb deeply.

How it works

How PRP works

PRP treatment in a BHRC treatment room
1

A quick blood draw

A small sample is taken, much like a routine blood test.

2

Platelets are concentrated

A centrifuge separates the golden, growth-factor-rich plasma.

3

PRP is placed

It's injected into the scalp or skin, or applied with microneedling, and your body responds over the following weeks.

PRP injections vs PRP microneedling

PRP can be injected where it's needed or applied during microneedling so it works through the micro-channels. Your provider recommends one based on your goal.

What to expect from PRP

Before your treatment

Stay well hydrated and avoid blood thinners, alcohol and certain supplements, as your provider directs.

During your treatment

After the blood draw your PRP is prepared while you relax. Numbing cream is applied, then PRP is placed by injection or with microneedling. Sessions take about 45 minutes to an hour.

After your treatment

Skin may look pink for a day or two, with minor swelling at injection sites. Results develop over weeks, and hair or deeper skin concerns respond best to a series.

After your treatment

Results and aftercare for PRP

Aftercare following PRP at BHRC

What your results look like

  1. First week

Any pinkness or swelling settles within a day or two.

  2. Weeks 3 to 6

Skin looks healthier, brighter and more even as collagen builds.

  3. Months 3 to 6

Hair results start to show as shedding slows and new growth appears, especially after a series.

Does PRP work for hair loss?

PRP is used for early thinning and gradual hair loss. Over a series of treatments, many clients notice less shedding and fuller-looking hair.

How many PRP sessions will I need?

Most people get the best results from a short series spaced a few weeks apart, followed by occasional maintenance.

Is PRP painful?

Numbing cream is applied before treatment. Most people find the blood draw and treatment very manageable.

Is PRP safe?

Because PRP comes from your own blood, the risk of an allergic reaction is very low. Bruising, tenderness and mild swelling are the most common side effects.

Who shouldn't get PRP?

People with certain blood or platelet disorders, active infections, some cancers, or who take blood thinners may not be candidates. Your consultation reviews your history.

How long do PRP results last?

Skin results can last many months. For hair, most people follow an initial series with maintenance treatments.

Can PRP be combined with microneedling?

Yes. Applying PRP during microneedling, often called a vampire facial, helps the growth factors reach deeper into the skin.
