Kisspeptin 10mg

A neuropeptide that activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis through GnRH stimulation, supporting reproductive hormone balance, fertility optimization, and metabolic wellness.

What is Kisspeptin?

Kisspeptin is a naturally occurring neuropeptide encoded by the KISS1 gene that serves as the master regulator of reproductive hormone release. It binds to the KISS1 receptor (GPR54) in the hypothalamus, triggering pulsatile secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which subsequently stimulates luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release from the pituitary—ultimately governing testosterone and estrogen production.

Beyond its reproductive functions, kisspeptin influences metabolic regulation, mood, cognition, and vascular function. Emerging research demonstrates its role in regulating puberty onset, maintaining menstrual cyclicity, supporting ovulation, enhancing sperm production, and modulating sexual behavior through complex neuroendocrine pathways.

At BHRC, our physicians utilize kisspeptin as part of comprehensive reproductive health and hormonal optimization protocols. Medical supervision ensures appropriate dosing, monitoring of hormone levels, and integration with fertility treatments or broader wellness strategies tailored to individual patient needs and reproductive goals.

Kisspeptin at BHRC: the essentials

What it is
Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest active fragment of the kisspeptin family, a set of peptides that sit upstream of GnRH, LH and FSH. The 10mg figure on this page is the amount of peptide in the vial, not a dose. Research doses of kisspeptin-10 are measured in micrograms per kilogram, which is why an individual plan matters.
How it is given
Subcutaneous injection, on a schedule your provider sets after hormone testing.
Typical course
A short, lab-guided trial with repeat LH, FSH and sex-hormone testing, then a decision to continue, adjust or stop.
Who asks about it
Adults exploring the reproductive hormone axis, including men with low-normal testosterone who want to keep their own production running and people curious about libido research.
What BHRC is not
BHRC is not a fertility clinic. Kisspeptin used as an IVF trigger is a specialist research setting and is not what is offered here.
Regulatory status
Not FDA-approved. FDA currently lists kisspeptin-10 in 503A Category 2, substances that raise significant safety risks.

Your plan

What a Kisspeptin plan at BHRC involves

1

Hormone-focused consultation

The first visit maps your situation: symptoms, menstrual history for women, testosterone history for men, fertility plans, current medications including any testosterone, contraception or fertility drugs, and previous lab results. Kisspeptin acts at the very top of the reproductive axis, so the provider needs the whole picture before deciding whether it makes sense or whether a standard evaluation should come first. For example, a man with low testosterone and a very low LH may need imaging or an endocrinology referral before anyone talks about peptides, and a woman with missed periods needs pregnancy, thyroid and prolactin causes ruled out first.

2

Baseline hormone panel

LH, FSH, total and free testosterone or estradiol, prolactin, thyroid function and, for women, cycle-timed testing where relevant. These results show whether the pituitary and gonads are responding normally, which determines whether a peptide that works upstream has anything to work with.

3

Risk conversation and written plan

Because FDA lists kisspeptin-10 in 503A Category 2, the provider explains what that means before any prescription: limited human safety data for these routes, and concern about immunogenicity and impurities in compounded product. If you still want to proceed and the provider agrees it is appropriate, you receive a written plan with timing, storage instructions and stop rules. Dosing is set individually.

4

Repeat hormone testing

A follow-up panel checks whether LH, FSH and downstream hormones moved, which is the only objective way to know the peptide is doing something. Symptoms such as libido or mood are tracked too, but they are noisy on their own. A short symptom diary kept from the first week makes this part of the review more useful than recalling how you felt a month ago.

5

Review and exit plan

At the end of the trial the provider decides with you whether to continue, change approach or stop. If you are trying to conceive, the plan is coordinated with your fertility specialist or you are referred to one.

Timeline

What to expect with Kisspeptin, step by step

  1. First days

In research settings LH rises within hours of a kisspeptin dose, but you will not feel that. Early weeks are about technique and noting any injection-site or flushing reactions.

  2. Weeks 2 to 4

The first repeat panel. Changes in LH and testosterone or estradiol are the signal the plan is reviewed on.

  3. Weeks 4 to 8

Any subjective change in libido or energy, if it happens, tends to be reported in this window. It is highly individual, and some people notice nothing even when labs move.

  4. Decision point

Continue, adjust or stop, based on labs, side effects and goals. Unlike testosterone, kisspeptin is not designed to replace your own hormones, but research shows continuous exposure can blunt the pituitary response, so the provider rechecks hormones after you stop. A response in women can also vary with the phase of the cycle, which the provider accounts for when timing tests.

Is it right for you?

Who Kisspeptin may suit, and who should not use it

May be a fit if

  • Adults whose hormone panel shows an intact pituitary and gonadal response
  • Men who want to explore supporting their own testosterone production and accept a monitored trial
  • People who have had a standard evaluation and understand the FDA Category 2 status before agreeing to a prescription
  • Patients trying to conceive who are willing to have BHRC coordinate with a fertility specialist

Not a fit if

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Hormone-sensitive cancer, current or past, including breast, prostate, ovarian or endometrial cancer
  • Untreated pituitary tumor or very high prolactin
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome or a history of ovarian hyperstimulation, unless a reproductive endocrinologist directs care
  • Anyone who wants kisspeptin in place of a fertility workup or as an unsupervised ovulation trigger
  • Anyone under 18
  • People already on testosterone therapy who have not discussed with their provider how the two would interact

Monitoring

How BHRC monitors Kisspeptin

Kisspeptin's job in the body is to start a hormone cascade, so monitoring follows that cascade. LH and FSH show whether the pituitary is responding, testosterone or estradiol show whether the gonads followed, and prolactin and thyroid function rule out common confounders. Labs are timed against injections and, for women, against the menstrual cycle, because research shows women respond differently in different phases.

Report pelvic pain, bloating or rapid weight gain in women, breast tenderness, mood changes, persistent headaches or any allergic-type reaction such as hives or swelling. Those are reasons to pause and be seen, not to keep going.

Because FDA has flagged kisspeptin-10 compounding for immunogenicity and impurity concerns, BHRC records the compounding pharmacy and lot number for every vial and asks you to report unusual reactions at the injection site. If you stop responding on labs after an initial response, the provider considers whether something other than the peptide has changed.

Regulatory status

Kisspeptin: FDA status and how it is prescribed

Regulatory status: Kisspeptin-10 is not an FDA-approved drug. FDA has placed kisspeptin-10 in Category 2 of its 503A bulk drug substances interim policy, the category for substances that raise significant safety risks, citing possible immunogenicity, peptide-related impurities and limited safety information for the proposed routes; it remains in Category 2 on FDA's list updated May 14, 2026. Compounded kisspeptin has not been reviewed by FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality. At BHRC it is prescribed only after a consultation, a baseline hormone panel and a discussion of this status with a licensed provider. Nothing here claims that kisspeptin diagnoses, treats or prevents infertility, hypogonadism or any other condition. Prepared by the BHRC team from FDA and PubMed sources.

Before you book

Kisspeptin: cost, consultation and safety questions

What is kisspeptin, in plain terms?

Kisspeptin is a signal made in the hypothalamus that tells GnRH neurons to fire, which in turn prompts the pituitary to release LH and FSH, the hormones that drive the testes and ovaries. Kisspeptin-10 is a short fragment of the natural peptide that keeps that signaling activity. Clinical researchers have used it to study the reproductive axis because it acts so high up the chain.

Does it work differently in men and women?

Yes. A 2011 study found kisspeptin-10 raised LH and FSH in healthy men at low doses, but did not raise them in women during the early follicular phase of the menstrual cycle, only around ovulation. Later research confirmed that the response in women changes across the cycle. That is why BHRC times labs carefully and why a plan that suits a man may not suit a woman.

What does the research show for libido?

Small studies at Imperial College London found kisspeptin changed brain activity in response to sexual images, and a 2023 randomized crossover trial that enrolled 37 men with low sexual desire reported increased brain responses and some secondary improvements in arousal measures. These are early, short-term, laboratory studies. They are interesting, but they do not establish kisspeptin as a libido treatment, and BHRC does not present it as one.

Is kisspeptin used in IVF?

Researchers have studied kisspeptin as a trigger for final egg maturation in IVF, largely to reduce the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation. That work happens in specialist fertility units under research protocols. BHRC does not provide IVF or ovulation-trigger care; if fertility is your goal, the clinic will coordinate with or refer you to a reproductive endocrinologist.

Where can I read about kisspeptin dosing and timing?

Dosing is individualized after hormone testing, so it is not listed here. For background reading on how protocols have been described, see our Kisspeptin-10 Dosage Guide. Please use it to prepare questions for your provider, not to self-dose.

Can kisspeptin be used long term?

That is not well established. A 2026 study in healthy men found daily eight-hour subcutaneous kisspeptin-10 infusions sustained LH and testosterone rises over 12 days, while continuous exposure for several days blunted the gonadotropin response. Data beyond a few weeks are thin, which is one reason BHRC uses short, lab-reviewed trials. It also means the clinic will not promise that a response seen in the first month will persist, and builds a recheck into every plan.

What side effects have been reported?

Research studies have generally reported few side effects over short periods, but those were small, controlled studies, often using kisspeptin made to clinical-trial standards. Hormone-related effects such as mood change or breast tenderness, injection-site reactions and headache are the things the clinic watches for.

What does it cost?

Cost depends on the length of the trial, the number of vials, and the repeat hormone panels, which are a meaningful part of a responsible plan. BHRC does not publish prices on this page; you receive a full quote after the consultation. It is not covered by insurance. If the baseline panel shows a medical problem that needs standard care, the cost of that care is separate and may be covered by your plan.

Why does FDA's Category 2 listing matter to me?

It means FDA has identified significant safety concerns with compounding this substance and would consider taking action against compounders who use it. For you, it means less certainty about product quality and long-term safety. BHRC explains this before prescribing, so you can decide with the full picture.

How is it different from testosterone or gonadorelin?

Testosterone replaces the end hormone and tends to switch off your own production. Gonadorelin acts one step lower, at the pituitary. Kisspeptin acts above both, at the hypothalamic level. Which, if any, is appropriate depends on where in the axis the problem sits, which is what the baseline labs are for. In practice, many people who ask about kisspeptin end up on a different plan once their labs are back, and that is a good outcome, not a failure of the consult.

Kisspeptin FAQ

What is Kisspeptin?

Kisspeptin is a naturally occurring neuropeptide that serves as the master regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. It stimulates gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion, which triggers LH and FSH release to support reproductive hormone production, fertility, libido, and metabolic function.

How is Kisspeptin administered?

Kisspeptin is administered via subcutaneous injection, typically using a personalized dosing protocol tailored to individual reproductive goals and hormone levels. Your BHRC physician will provide detailed injection training, dosing schedules, and monitoring guidelines based on your specific treatment plan.

What are the benefits?

Kisspeptin may support reproductive hormone signaling and has been studied for effects on LH, testosterone, and sexual brain processing; fertility and metabolic effects remain areas of research. Individual results depend on baseline hormone status and treatment goals.

Who is a good candidate?

Candidates are adults seeking a supervised, lab-guided look at reproductive hormone signaling and libido; anyone with a fertility or hormone diagnosis is evaluated in coordination with their specialist. A BHRC physician will evaluate your hormone levels, medical history, and reproductive goals to determine if kisspeptin therapy is appropriate.

Are there side effects?

Kisspeptin was generally well tolerated in small, short-term research studies, and FDA lists kisspeptin-10 in 503A Category 2 for significant safety risks. Possible side effects may include mild injection site reactions, headache, nausea, or hormonal fluctuations during initial treatment. Serious adverse effects are rare. Your BHRC physician will discuss all potential risks, contraindications, and monitoring protocols during your consultation.

How long until I see results?

Response timelines vary based on individual physiology and treatment goals. Some patients experience hormonal changes within hours to days (measurable through LH/FSH testing), while reproductive outcomes like ovulation induction or fertility improvements may take several weeks to months. Your physician will establish realistic expectations and monitoring schedules based on your specific protocol.

Can Kisspeptin be used with fertility treatments?

Yes, kisspeptin can be integrated into comprehensive fertility treatment protocols, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), ovulation induction, or timed intercourse strategies.
