IPL vs. Other Skin Treatments

IPL vs Microneedling

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses broad-spectrum light to target and treat skin concerns like pigmentation, redness, and sun damage by delivering light energy that penetrates different layers of the skin. Microneedling, on the other hand, involves using fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin, stimulating collagen production and improving texture, fine lines, and scarring. While IPL focuses on surface issues like pigmentation and vascular concerns, microneedling is more effective for improving skin texture, scars, and fine lines by encouraging deeper skin regeneration.

IPL vs. Clear + Brilliant

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses broad-spectrum light to target a variety of skin concerns, such as pigmentation, redness, and fine lines, by delivering multiple wavelengths of light to penetrate different skin layers. Clear + Brilliant, on the other hand, is a type of fractional laser treatment that uses a single wavelength of light to target the skin’s surface, stimulating collagen production and improving texture, tone, and pore size. While IPL is more versatile for treating pigmentation and redness, Clear + Brilliant is focused on improving overall skin texture and rejuvenation.

Target Your Concerns with IPL

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a versatile treatment that addresses a range of skin concerns by targeting pigmentation, blood vessels, and other skin irregularities.

Hyperpigmentation

IPL targets pigment in the skin and breaks it down, helping to address hyperpigmentation such as sun spots, age spots, freckles, and more.

Redness and Vascular Issues

IPL’s light energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin in blood vessels, causing them to shrink and fade over time. Because of this, IPL is a fantastic solution for addressing rosacea, spider veins, and general facial redness.

Acne and Acne Scars

IPL can treat active acne by killing acne-causing bacteria and reducing inflammation, as well as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne scars. It works by reducing redness and promoting the healing of scars through the stimulation of collagen production.

Uneven Skin Tone

IPL helps to even out blotchy or uneven complexion caused by pigmentation or redness. It works to target discoloration and boost collagen for a smoother complexion.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Through the stimulation of collagen, IPL can improve skin texture and elasticity over time, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

What IPL Actually Does

To begin your IPL treatment, your provider will cleanse the treatment areas, and protective eyewear will be provided to shield your eyes from the light energy. A cool gel is applied to the skin as well. Next, the handheld IPL device is moved across the treatment area, delivering pulses of light to the skin. Many people describe this treatment as feeling like a rubber band snapping against the skin and it is generally well tolerated. The duration of treatment will depend on the size of the treatment area.

Following treatment, a soothing cream may be applied to the skin. The skin may feel warm, and mild redness may occur, which should reduce with time. Dark spots may also initially appear darker before flaking off 7-10 days later.

Benefits of IPL

IPL can address multiple skin concerns with minimal downtime. Main advantages include:

  • Long-term results
  • Treats multiple skin issues
  • Non-invasive
  • Minimal downtime
  • Customizable to different concerns

IPL FAQs at Beverly Hills Rejuvenation Center

  • How is IPL different from laser treatment?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses broad-spectrum light with multiple wavelengths to treat various skin concerns like pigmentation, redness, and fine lines. Lasers, on the other hand, use a single wavelength of light to target specific issues, allowing deeper penetration for concerns like deep pigmentation or scars and often require fewer sessions for targeted treatments. While IPL is ideal for general skin rejuvenation, lasers are more effective for precise and deeper skin concerns. Our team at BHRC will be happy to help determine which treatment is best for you.

  • How long do IPL treatments last?

The effects of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments typically last anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on the specific skin concern being treated and the individual’s skin type. To maintain results, many people opt for maintenance treatments every 4–6 months. The full benefits of IPL are usually seen after a series of 3–5 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart.

  • How much do IPL treatments cost?

The cost of IPL treatments may vary depending on various factors. Please contact our office today to schedule a consultation for more information regarding pricing.

  • Does IPL get rid of brown spots?

Yes, IPL can effectively reduce or eliminate brown spots, such as age spots, sunspots, and freckles, by targeting the excess melanin in the skin. The light energy breaks down the pigment, which is then absorbed and eliminated by the body, leading to a more even skin tone over time.

  • What should I do after my IPL treatment?

Following your IPL treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. You should also avoid hot showers, saunas, or strenuous activity for 24 hours after treatment. To ensure the best results, moisturize the treated areas to support healing, and be sure to follow specific instructions provided by your practitioner.
