    In short

Neurotoxin injections, sold as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau, are FDA-approved treatments that relax the specific facial muscles causing dynamic wrinkles. A session takes 15 to 20 minutes with no downtime, results appear within 3 to 7 days, and they typically last 3 to 4 months. At Beverly Hills Rejuvenation Center, every injection is performed by a licensed medical provider, and pricing runs $5 to $14 per unit depending on the product.

Smooth Wrinkles & Restore Youthful Expression

Neurotoxins relax the specific facial muscles that crease skin when they move, softening forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet. Because we stock all four products, your provider matches the one that suits your muscle strength and the area being treated.

    How it works

    How Neurotoxins Work

Understanding the science behind neurotoxins helps you appreciate why these treatments deliver such effective, natural-looking results.

Neurotoxin is precisely injected into targeted facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles through repetitive movement.

The neurotoxin blocks nerve signals to the muscle, temporarily preventing it from contracting and creating wrinkles.

As the muscle relaxes, the overlying skin smooths out, softening existing wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming.

    Which product

    Botox, Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau

All four relax the same muscles. They differ in onset, spread and formulation.

    Botox

Starts working: 3 to 7 days. Lasts: 3 to 4 months. The reference standard, the most predictable spread, and the one most patients have had before.

    Dysport

Starts working: 2 to 5 days. Lasts: 3 to 4 months. Onset is quicker and it diffuses a little wider, which suits larger areas like the forehead.

    Xeomin

Starts working: 4 to 7 days. Lasts: 3 to 4 months. A "naked" molecule with no accessory proteins, often chosen for patients who have stopped responding to others.

    Jeuveau

Starts working: 2 to 5 days. Lasts: 3 to 4 months. Formulated purely for cosmetic use, frequently chosen for frown lines.

    Good to know

What to know about each area

The classic three, plus the uses that come up most in consultation.

A BHRC provider injecting neurotoxin into a patient's forehead
    The classic three

Forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and crow's feet. This is what most first appointments cover.

    Smoker's lines

Fine vertical lines above the lip respond to very small doses. Deeper ones usually need filler alongside. Our page on treating smoker's lines covers both routes.

    Hands

Neurotoxin does not treat hand wrinkles, which are a volume and skin-quality problem. See hand wrinkle treatment for what does work. On hands, neurotoxin is used for excessive sweating.

    Knees and other body areas

Rarely appropriate, since skin laxity is not a muscle problem. If knees are your concern, smoothing knees sets out the realistic options.

    Jawline and neck

Masseter treatment slims a heavy jaw and eases clenching. Platysmal bands soften a stringy neck.

    Excessive sweating

Underarms, palms and soles. Results typically last longer here than on the face, often 6 to 12 months.

    Migraines

Treated with a specific FDA-approved protocol and dosing that differs from cosmetic use. Ask at consultation whether you are a candidate.

    Aftercare

Making it last, and what to expect after

What patients actually ask us in the two weeks after treatment.

A BHRC provider applying a cold compress after injectable treatment
    How it actually works

Step one: the neurotoxin is injected into the specific muscles that crease the skin when they contract. Step two: it blocks the nerve signal telling those muscles to contract. Step three: the muscle relaxes, the skin over it stops folding, and existing lines soften while new ones are held off.

Why it wears off faster for some people

A fast metabolism, heavy exercise, high stress and strong expressive muscles all shorten the window. We go deeper in how long Botox lasts.

    Heat, saunas and hot yoga

Avoid significant heat for 24 hours. Heat raises circulation and can encourage the product to move before it has settled. Beyond that first day, normal sauna use is not going to undo the treatment.

    Bruising

Common and temporary, usually clearing in 5 to 10 days. Bruising happens when a needle meets a small vessel, which no injector can see in advance. Understanding Botox bruising explains why.

When a bruise is not resolving

Past about two weeks, have it looked at. Occasionally what looks like a lingering bruise is pigment change instead. See bruises lasting long after treatment.

    Lowering your odds of bruising

Stop alcohol 24 hours before. With your prescriber's agreement, pause fish oil, vitamin E, ibuprofen and aspirin about a week ahead. Arnica and a cold compress after help.

    First 24 hours

Stay upright for four hours, skip the gym that day, and do not rub or massage the area. That is genuinely the whole aftercare list.

    Your timeline

    What happens, and when

Neurotoxin does not switch on the moment you leave.

    1. Day 0TreatmentFifteen to twenty minutes. Stay upright for four hours, skip the gym that day, then carry on as normal.
    2. Day 3 to 7First softeningLines begin to relax. This is when most patients notice the change, and it is normal for one side to move before the other.
    3. Week 2Fully settled, and reviewedThe full effect is in. Your complimentary follow-up falls here so placement can be checked and topped up if needed.
    4. Month 3 to 4Gradual returnMovement comes back slowly rather than all at once. Most patients rebook around this point to stay ahead of the lines reforming.

    Frequently asked

    Neurotoxin questions, answered

    How much does Botox cost?

At BHRC, $5 to $14 per unit depending on the product: Dysport $5, Xeomin $12, Botox $14. Because it is priced per unit, the total depends on the area treated. Forehead lines typically run 10 to 20 units and frown lines 20 to 25. A full-face package of 40 to 60 units is $550 to $750. Our Las Vegas price guide works through a real example.

How many units of Botox will I need?

For most areas, 10 to 25 units. Frown lines usually take 20 to 25, forehead lines 10 to 20, crow's feet 18 to 24. Jawline slimming needs considerably more, 30 to 50 per side. Your provider confirms the number at consultation after seeing your muscle strength. See units needed per injection site.

How soon will I see results, and how long do they last?

Results appear within 3 to 7 days and settle fully by about two weeks. They typically last 3 to 4 months. Dysport and Jeuveau tend to start working slightly sooner, in 2 to 5 days.

Why does Botox wear off so quickly for me?

A fast metabolism, frequent intense exercise, high stress and unusually strong facial muscles all shorten how long it lasts. Some patients simply metabolize it faster. If yours consistently fades early, your provider can adjust the dose or switch product.

Does heat or a sauna make Botox wear off faster?

Avoid significant heat for the first 24 hours, since raised circulation can move the product before it settles. After that first day, ordinary sauna and hot yoga use will not undo your treatment.

Is bruising after Botox normal, and how long does it last?

Yes, and it usually clears within 5 to 10 days. Bruising happens when the needle meets a small blood vessel, which cannot be seen in advance. If a bruise has not resolved after about two weeks, have your provider look at it, since a lingering mark is occasionally pigment change rather than a bruise.

How can I reduce the chance of bruising?

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand. With your prescriber's agreement, pause fish oil, vitamin E, ibuprofen and aspirin about a week before. Afterwards, a cold compress and arnica help.

Which is better, Botox, Dysport or Xeomin?

None is better outright. Botox is the most predictable, Dysport starts faster and spreads a little wider which suits the forehead, and Xeomin carries no accessory proteins so it is often chosen for patients who have stopped responding to others. We stock all four, so the choice is clinical rather than stock-driven.

Botox or filler, which do I need?

Neurotoxin relaxes muscles that cause movement lines. Filler replaces lost volume. Lines visible only when you move are usually neurotoxin. Lines present at rest, or hollowing, are usually filler. Many patients need both, and a consultation is the fastest way to find out. Botox vs Juvéderm compares them directly, and our dermal filler page covers the filler side.

Does Botox work on smoker's lines?

Small doses soften the fine vertical lines above the lip. Deeper etched lines usually need filler or resurfacing alongside, and overdosing this area affects the mouth, so it calls for a conservative hand.

Can Botox be used on hands or knees?

Not for wrinkles. Hand and knee skin laxity is a volume and skin-quality issue, better addressed with filler or resurfacing. Neurotoxin is used on hands for excessive sweating, where it works very well.

    Is there any downtime?

None for most people. Treatment takes 15 to 20 minutes. Stay upright for four hours, skip the gym that day, and avoid rubbing the area. Otherwise, return to your day.
